When designing a sanitary system, engineers have to consider two practical questions:

• What is the most appropriate material for my process piping?
• Is this material commercially available?

Designing for corrosion control is the most cost-effective way to ensure system integrity. However, components such as valves, pumps, tubing, and fittings—which must meet dimensional and surface finish requirements—have not been readily available in corrosion resistant alloys.
